The outgoing Mesa mayor pitches his personal philosophy as being a small "L" libertarian, rooted in the belief that government should not use its power to trounce the rights of private citizens or take on tasks that are best handled by the private sector or charities.

Sun Devils in command of baseball regional

The Arizona State baseball team pounced on a shaky freshman starting pitcher and had Mike Leake to protect the lead. On Saturday night, that combination put the Sun Devils in firm control of the Tempe Regional, as a 15-3 victory against Oklahoma at Packard Stadium put ASU within a victory of advancing to the super regional round.

Behind another set of impressive performances from Charonda Williams in the women’s sprints and strong contributions from several men, the Arizona State track and field squads swept the team titles and gained 21 entries into the national championships as the 2008 NCAA West Region championships came to a close Saturday at Northridge, Calif.
